Home Depot Fined $20 Million For Allegedly Violating Lead Paint Rules

The Consumer Product Safety Act is designed to protect Americans from dangerous or defective products. It prohibits any person or company from selling products that are subject to “voluntary corrective action,” which is also known as a recall. In 2008, Congress amended the Act to bar the sale of recalled product, but the CPSC has only recently begun to enforce this provision through the issuance of large penalties.

The checklist will lead the contactors through the steps required for RRP Rule compliance. Home Depot will also conduct thousands of on-site inspections of work performed by its contractors to ensure they comply with lead-safe work practices. In instances where the contractor did not comply with Lead Safe Work practices Home Depot will perform an inspection for dust lead hazards and, if they are found, provide a specialized cleaning.

The figures above are averages based on the fees paid by local authorities and by self-funders. If you're arranging residential care for someone who has dementia, be aware that the local authority won't always pay more to a care home to cover their needs. This will have implications if you are arranging care for a loved one and considering paying a care home top-up fee. Councils have standard rates that they are usually prepared to pay for care. They will have different rates to cater for people needing different levels of care - for example, in a care home with personal care only, or in a care home with nursing. Don't assume that you'll necessarily be paying all of your own fees. While most people will make a contribution towards their care costs, less than half of people in care homes are completely self-funded.

This is usually the best way to meet their needs and so they are not covered by this Act. However, there is provision in the Act for an adult carer of a disabled child to ask for an assessment of their caring needs in advance of the child reaching 18. Where a local authority carries out such an assessment, it has the power to provide support to the carer even though they are caring for a child not an adult. This would, for example, enable a local authority to provide support that is available through an adult carers’ centre. For people in a care home a contribution to daily living costs will be deducted from that cost. The costs will be set out in a person’s personal budget if they are receiving local authority support or, if they are meeting the costs themselves, their independent personal budget .

I am shocked to hear all of these horror stories about elder care from Canadians. I thought healthcare in Canada was far better than the U.S., but it sounds very similar in all of these comments. Bild is pleased to learn about the positive progression of the Hogewey facility. We intend to stay informed in regards to this facility, and watch how this model grows and evolves.

This article does mention having twice the amount of staff to residents, but nothing directly discussing interventions and management of resident-to-resident violence and abuse. Any facts about this from those who know would be great! We all have aging loved ones and these are very real concerns as we all grow older and look for appropriate care in the event that we can no longer provide that ourselves.

The Hogeweyk®

It offers a safe and pleasant environment which is easily recognisable for the residents of Hogeweyk. Maybe this is the point where ideas are put forward by us. As family, caregivers of patients with alzheimers. I agree with you that we need to see more activism in the way of prevention.

"That you can still decide what you put in your coffee is important." It's also important for residents to go outside, research has found. Hogewey tries to encourage residents to take walks or enjoy one of the several gardens. Staff at Hogeweyk are trained to focus on highlighting what residents can do, not what they can't. Does happen I feel they will only be for the rich which leaves the majority of Canadians with dementia, exactly where they are right now.

Residents can choose to have breakfast at different times. If residents wish to participate in a wider range of activities, they can choose to pay for extra club memberships, such as classical music societies and gardening clubs. There is also a pub where residents can socialize.

Hogeweyk caregivers and house attendants use an in-house currency to help their residents buy groceries at a fully-functional supermarket. Hogeweyk places a great deal of importance on word choice, van Hal said. The staff members don't treat patients — they care for residents. The landscape has been designed to reflect the outside world and includes a park, boulevarde, squares, streets and courtyards.

One, regardless of the patients mental state, we as care givers should not LIE to them. IMAGINE all long term care residences being set up and run like this……. All we can do is spread stories like these as much as possible in hopes that they eventually get into the right hands – whether it be government or people with a lot of money to spare.

The nursing home organisation happens behind the scenes as much as possible to keep disruption to normal life to an absolute minimum. The café–restaurant is also open to the public and the theater is hired by local businesses, both of which help with running costs. The cost per resident is similar to more traditional nursing homes at around €5,000 per month. De Hogeweyk allows residents to participate in professionally led clubs, attend a concert, and go to the market, the restaurant, the café or the beauty salon. The community is encouraged to participate in normal life at De Hogeweyk, such as attending a concert, visiting the restaurant or an art exhibition.

Instead of logistics there is an inspirational working environment with fun and familiar activities for residents. Being outdoors promotes health of staff and residents alike.

When she unexpectedly encountered another woman whom she had always disliked, she displayed her animosity! Although she no longer spoke intelligibly, she regaled her daughter with animated stories, containing no recognisable words but plenty of non-verbal communication. She appeared to be an excellent example of how successful person-centred care can be, even in very advanced dementia.

Since my visit, I have thought a lot about life in the village. In this blog post, I will describe Hogeway and why I hope that we see more villages like it around the world. Glimpses of lucidity like that make the relatives of people with dementia yearn for an environment built around life rather than death. Hogewey hasn’t found a cure for dementia, but it’s found a path that’s changing ideas of how to treat those who can no longer take care of themselves. A few years ago, CNN visited The Hogeweyk® in The Netherlands and characterised it as the world’s first Dementia Village.

We are excited that awareness for long-term care reform is spreading everyday, and are proud to do our part in making positive changes for our fellow citizens. This is the fourth blog post in a series about cutting edge elder care in the Netherlands. In this blog post, we take a closer look at theDementia Village at Hogewey. “This is a terrible disease, but this place makes me a little less scared of it," Elly Goedhart, the daughter of a Hogewey resident, told Time in February. The efforts may only yield benefits for a few years. But van Hal said the small details can mean the most, even if it's just pouring a resident the perfect cup of coffee.

The residents here take fewer medications, eat better and live longer. And although joy is a hard thing to measure, the staff at Hogewey think their residents are more content on a day to day to basis. At Bild, we are excited to see “culture change” moving forward in long-term care. Recently published articles related to the Hogewey Nursing Home in Weesp, Netherlands appear to reveal a successful culture change story.

Residents can experience the seasons and find their own spot. This supports the facility’s vision of salutogenesis and the level of functioning of severely demented residents. Although certain homes are designed to accommodate introverts, there are a variety of social events available to residents, van Hal said.
